Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk. Honestly.

Society wants us to believe that milk is healthy. The government has pushed a strong marketing campaign for many years, having us believe that we need to drink milk to get our source of calcium. Have your kids drink at least 1 glass of milk a day, in order to build strong bones. Sounds familiar, right?

Sorry to break it to you, but it is complete BS!

If you do love your milk, here are a few things worth thinking about:

1. Milk is not a human food.

Humans are the only animal that consume milk into adulthood, and the only animals that regularly drink the milk of another animal! Continue reading

Why You Want To Make Your Liver Your New Best Friend

The liver is one of the most important organs in the body. It is the largest internal organ and weighs about 1,5 kilos (3-4 pounds). It lies directly underneath the diaphragm, underneath the right ribcage.

What is the liver supposed to do in your body?

The liver has many tasks to complete, and is working hard to keep your systems balanced. The main functions are:

1. Your liver secretes almost 1 litre of bile every day.

Let’s start to talk about the importance of secretion of bile. Your body needs a lot of bile on a daily basis to be able to stay healthy. Basically, almost all health problems are a direct or indirect consequence of reduced bile availability. Bile is a bitter, alkaline fluid of a yellow, brown, or green colour. It is produced by the liver, but is stored and concentrated in the gallbladder. Continue reading

How To Make Your Own Sprouts – The Easy Way

In this video I use mung beans for sprouting. These sprouts are really delicious – juicy and a bit crispy. I love them! They are just the ideal sprouts for your salad. Another beautiful thing with mung beans is that it is almost impossible to get it wrong. It is dead easy. Have a look.

If you don’t want to use mung beans, another thing that is easy to sprout is the alfalfa seed. Alfalfa sprouts are just as delicious and nutritious, but not as crunchy as the mung bean sprouts. Continue reading

What Sprouts Can Do For You

My first real memory of sprouts goes back to me being a teenager. My mum told me to eat them to fight the whole teenage acne situation. I actually quite liked them, and I think it would have worked if I had eaten them on a regular basis. But I didn’t really understand how they could help me. I didn’t give them a chance.

More importantly, if I had understood that everything that goes in must – somehow – come back out again, I might have made other choices. Cutting down on some of the massive amounts of sweets I managed to eat would probably have done wonders to my skin… Continue reading

True Happiness Comes From Within

In our society we tend to rely on others to make us happy. How other people are treating us determines if we are happy or not. Even the traffic has a say in our happiness, and not forgetting to mention the weather. Not only does this often make us sad, it also makes us very vulnerable.

We live in a world full of stress, and we always seem to push ourselves to achieve more with every passing day. Not only is this depleting our energy on a daily basis, it also disconnects us from our true inner being. To be able to be true to ourselves we need time to look within. Time to feel the connection to our soul, our being. Continue reading

How To Master The Art Of Eating – Part 3

How do you feel when you wake up? Are you still tired, feeling heavy, and wishing you could  get just one more hour of sleep? Or are you feeling alert, energised and ready for a new day? How we feel when we wake up is a reflection of our EATING HABITS – not only our sleeping habits.

When the body is stiff and heavy and the mind a bit foggy, it means that the liver has not been able to process and purify your blood during sleep. There can be many reasons as to why the liver didn’t have time to do its job properly. It can be that you’ve eaten too much, the food you’ve eaten was of bad quality, you’ve had too many animal products, you’ve eaten too late in the evening, or the way you combine your food can make the liver work overtime.

The best thing to do after waking up is to hydrate the body. Continue reading

How To Master The Art Of Eating – Part 2

It is not only what you eat and how well you chew it that matters. Your MINDSET is just as important for your digestion. If your mental state is negative it can actually create more acid in your body than the food you are eating!

What you should try to keep in mind is to set aside a special time and place for your meals. Eat in a nice, relaxing environment with calming sounds and colours. It is best to eat in the company of others, and to have a calm and loving conversation going. Always avoid emotionally charged conversations when eating. Also try to avoid eating when you are tired, worried or angry. All of these feelings make the food harder to digest. Continue reading

How To Master The Art Of Eating – Part 1

One of the most important things to master is to CHEW the food properly.

A thorough and conscious way of chewing will increase the amount of saliva in your mouth. The saliva is usually fairly alkaline, but as you chew and mix the food with the saliva, it turns even more alkaline. When you chew thoroughly, every mouthful will enter your stomach as an alkaline substance. This will lead to an ideal metabolism. When we don’t chew properly the mass we swallow will not be as alkaline and metabolism won’t be as effective. So proper chewing makes digestion smooth.

Another reason to chew the food properly is that you give your body the time to adjust to what is happening. Continue reading

What Celery Can Do For You

I used to detest celery. With a passion. Just the smell of it almost made me sick.  But somehow, during the last few years, it has become one of my favourite vegetables. A salad without celery just isn’t the same anymore. Funny how things can change, right?

The more I know about nutrition and how the body works, the more motivated I am to take better care of myself. And the truth is that celery is such a wonderful vegetable in so many ways.

Celery has a cooling nature to it, and is helpful for conditions of dampness. Dampness creates signs of stagnation, where we are easily tired and feel heavy. And if we feel any pain it is usually in one specific location. We are stuck.

Dampness is quite common in the UK since we live in a damp environment. Continue reading

How To Brush Your Way To Healthy, Smooth & Glowing Skin

The skin is our largest organ, and eliminates about 10% of our metabolic waste.  What skin brushing does is to clear the skin, and allow fresh elimination to take place. It ensures that pores don’t become blocked. It also encourages cell renewal by getting rid of all the dead outer skin cells, and improves the circulation on the surface skin. Dry skin brushing is even said to be more cleansing than using soap and water!

So how do you do a proper skin brush?

  • Make sure you use a non-synthetic, natural skin brush. My skin brush is from Body Shop and it is just amazing. I’ve used it for many years, and it is still in great condition. It is helpful to use a skin brush with a long handle so you can reach your back.
  • Always brush from the feet up towards the heart, and from the neck down towards the heart.
  • Start at the soles of the feet, and then brush in small strokes up the feet, ankles, calves, thighs and buttocks.
  • Then brush up the front and back of the torso as far as the heart. Continue reading
