Society wants us to believe that milk is healthy. The government has pushed a strong marketing campaign for many years, having us believe that we need to drink milk to get our source of calcium. Have your kids drink at least 1 glass of milk a day, in order to build strong bones. Sounds familiar, right?
Sorry to break it to you, but it is complete BS!
If you do love your milk, here are a few things worth thinking about:
1. Milk is not a human food.
Humans are the only animal that consume milk into adulthood, and the only animals that regularly drink the milk of another animal!
2. Milk is produced by cows to meet the nutritional demands of baby cows.
Because of its different chemical make up it is difficult for us to make use of the milk. It often contains nutrients we don’t need, and it contains minerals in wrong proportions for humans. This causes stress to our bodies since we have to deal with these extra nutrients, and finally eliminate them as toxins.
3. When we consume cow’s milk, we also consume hormones and antibiotics that are given to the cows.
Anything that the cow is given will be found in its milk. Even the quality of the cow’s food is quite poor today, and can contain many different pesticides. Therefore it is a lot better to drink organic milk, if milk has to be consumed at all.
4. Dairy is the leader of all foods in forming sticky mucus.
The presence of mucus in the nose and throat is normal, but when there is too much mucus the body needs to get rid of it, and this is why we get a cold or we get the flu. The body is just naturally getting rid of all the mucus that has been building up.
5. Milk is highly acidic and robs our bodies of calcium.
When we eat a lot of acidic foods, our bodies will do whatever they can to bring us back to the right pH. If not, we will die. So for our bodies to return to its alkaline state they have to withdraw calcium from our bones (since calcium is an alkaline mineral). No wonder osteoporosis is very common in Scandinavia where milk and cream is eaten on a daily basis. On the other hand, in Asia – where almost no milk is consumed – osteoporosis is not an issue.
A final note on how acidic milk and dairy is…
For our bodies to be able to neutralise 1 cup of milk it would need 20 (!) cups of something alkaline. That’s how acidic milk is! And not to mention ice cream – it would take a whopping 240 cups of something alkaline to neutralise 1 cup of ice cream! It’s mental.
So the idea that milk is healthy is just a cultural myth. Even if cows lived in some kind of utopia and produced the perfect milk – let’s face it – it simply isn’t a human food…
